Detailed Hike Plan

Had no idea how much work there would be before taking that first step . . .
One of the most time consuming but important tasks was developing a solid and detailed hike plan. Where are we camping each night, how many miles are we hiking, how much water is available, how much climb and decent, what is the average grade for the terrain and what sites and support resources are available along the way. The Appalachian Trail club has some great reference points and there is a cool web site at (www.atdist,com) that helps with the grades and elevation changes. I ended up putting all of these details into a spreadsheet and developing a daily plan for our SOBO journey. They say no plan survives the first day of battle so we will see, but we will not lack for planning and preparation.
A sample of the detailed spreadsheet format I developed for our hike plan.

After finalizing the plan, the map and a large version of the final plan end up on the office wall. My home base crew will use this to coordinate mail drops and keep track of where we are.
